Remotak Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 25, 2026
Remotak is a Wi‑Fi remote control for your TV. It works with Google TV and Android TV devices, Samsung, LG, Sony and Philips TVs, and Roku devices. It works entirely inside your home network: it does not collect any personal data and does not send anything to our servers or to any third party.
What we don't collect
The app needs no account and contains no ads, analytics or tracking. We do not collect your name, email, location, contacts or any device identifier.
What is stored on your phone only
- The paired TV's name and its local network (IP) address, so the app can reconnect automatically.
- A security certificate and encryption key that the app creates on your phone to pair securely with your TV.
- The access key a Samsung or LG TV issues when you choose “Allow”, or the pre-shared key you set yourself on a Sony TV, and the TV's MAC address, used to turn it on over the network.
- Any apps you add yourself to the app list.
This data stays on your phone and is never sent to us. “Forget this TV” removes the TV's name and address, and uninstalling the app removes all of it.
What is sent to your TV
The app connects directly to your TV over your local network, using an encrypted (TLS) connection whenever the TV supports one (some older Samsung and LG models only accept an unencrypted connection inside your home network, and Roku devices, like the control interfaces of Sony and Philips TVs that don't run Android, don't offer an encrypted one at all). It sends the commands you choose: button presses, the pairing code, text you type with the keyboard, and requests to open apps. It receives information from the TV, such as the volume level and the app currently open, to show it to you. None of this goes over the internet or through our servers.
Permissions
- Network access: to connect to your TV on your local network.
- Local network discovery (mDNS/Bonjour and SSDP): to find your TV automatically. On iPhone this is why you see the “Local Network” permission prompt.
- Wake‑on‑LAN: when you press the power button, the app sends a signal inside your network to turn on a Samsung, LG or Roku TV.
Children
The app does not collect data from any user, including children.
Changes to this policy
If the way the app handles data changes, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above.
